If your child needs to build English language skills specifically — grammar, reading, writing, exam prep — look for a dedicated English language tutor. If your child is already comfortable in English and just needs help with maths, music, coding or another subject, an English-speaking subject tutor is the better (and often cheaper) fit. What to check before booking

• Native vs. fluent. For language tutoring specifically, ask whether English is the tutor’s first language or a strong second language — both can be excellent, but they teach differently.
• Exam board experience. If you need IB, IGCSE, or SAT prep, confirm the tutor has taught that specific syllabus, not just the subject generally.
